LOVETT/CODAGNONE & TOM COLE
ERASE is created collaboratively by playwright Tom Cole and the artistic team Lovett/Codagnone. Taking formal cues from Germany??ôs anti-theater of the ???60s and ???70s, ERASE will combine Cole??ôs hyper-verbal texts with Lovett/Codagnone??ôs austere installations and endurance performances. The gallery exhibition will become the play, and the play will be the gallery exhibition. Based loosely on a true story of a victim whose willing involvement in a violent murder and cannibalization garnered international headlines, ERASE will cross the line into territory where individuals transgress social norms so completely they vanish altogether. By exploiting the physical space of the gallery and multiple yet concurrent narratives, ERASE will draw comparisons to other sorts of transgression: terrorism, art-making, and extreme politics.

About the Artist
John Lovett and Alessandro Codagnone have been working together, in New York, as Lovett/Codagnone since 1995. Born in 1962 in the US Lovett received his MBA from Drexel University, Philadelphia (1988), also attending the School of Visual Arts in New York (1989), while Codagnone, born 1967 in Italy, received his BA at Goldsmiths (1992) and completed the Whitney Independent Study Programme (1994). Lovett/Codagnone explore power relations in their work, through explicit cultural, and often sexual, practices such as S & M. For their performances they often distill complex human relationship dynamics into single poses which they hold with intensity and endurance. Lovett/Codagnone have exhibited at De Appel, Amsterdam (2005); The Laura Mars Group, and Neue Gesellschaft fur Bildende Kunst, both Berlin (both 2003); Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2002); Centre of Contemporary Art, Riga, Latvia (2001); Galerie Praz Delavallade, Paris (2001); Galleria Emi Fontana, Milan (2001/1997); Musee des Beaux Arts, Nantes (1998); Centro Atlantico de Arte Moderno, Las Palmas (1998); and PARTICIPANT INC, Roth Horowitz, TRANS>area, Brent Sikkema and Thread Waxing Space, all in New York.
