About the Artist
Kabir Carter's work focuses on urban environmental sound, acoustic communication, sound synthesis, specialized microphone technologies, and the presentation of live electroacoustic work in public spaces. His compositions, performances, and sound installations have been presented at Art Interactive, Atlantic Center for the Arts, Bronx Museum of the Arts, Diapason, Dorsch Gallery, d.u.m.b.o. arts center, Jersey City Museum, PS122 Gallery, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Socrates Sculpture Park, and in public presentations throughout New York City.
He also performs with live electronics as a soloist, and has been a member of the analog sound synthesis ensemble Analogos since 2005. Carter has been an artist-in-residence at LMCC/Workspace: 120 Broadway, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Create @ iEAR residency program. He has received awards from the American Music Center, the Experimental Television Center, Media Alliance, and Rhizome for his work. Upcoming activities include a presentation of Shared Frequencies as part of SoundWalk 2006 and the inclusion of the score and related documentation for Feedforward in Radio Territories (Errant Bodies Press).
