Award-winning Irish avant-garde composer and vocalist Jennifer Walshe, known for her virtuoso extended vocal techniques, creates elaborate graphical scores that blend visual art with musical notation. The concert will feature works by Walshe and others, including whives, a piece notated in embroidered drawings of soccer players; nature data, a piece constructed from a panoply of animal and insect sounds, originally commissioned for performance in the Butterfly House at the Royal Imperial Palace, Vienna; and My Extensive Relationship with Mr. Stephen Patrick M. (i), a score which is worn by the performer. Special guest flutist Jane Rigler will also perform. Projections and an exhibition of the scores will accompany the performance.
About the Artist
Jennifer Walshe (b. Dublin,1974.) is a composer and vocalist, who derives inspiration from the sounds she hears in the world around her. Jennifer is a 2007 grant recipient from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, New York, and was a resident of the DAAD Berliner K??nstlerprogramm in 2004-5. She is the composer of many music theatre works and operas, including her chamber opera for Barbie dolls XXX_LIVE_NUDE_GIRLS!!!, commissioned from Wien Modern, Austria.
